Track Name: The Boxer
Working at the food court Thursday night
She wants tattoos down her back to pump up the fight
She says a bar through her neck will stir up the ring alright
[Chop the tomato and laugh, chop the tomato and laugh]

There’s bite in her smile and eyes more than plastic
All her sentences stretch out like elastic
She blasts metal core, she’s an ’09 drastic
[I chuck and laugh, chuckle and laugh]

Amy’s gonna be a boxer
Swing, swing, swing.

Dropped out of school the moment she could
Was told she’d never live to achieve anything good
Than hanging around, polluting this neighbourhood
[I rinse the dishes and nod, rinse the dishes and nod]

She tells me how her family hurts her head
How most mornings she wakes up in her ex’s bed
And one day these sandwich gloves will be big and red
[I bat an eyelid and nod, bat an eyelid and nod]

Amy’s gonna be a boxer
Swing, swing, swing.

Now I’m at the concert, aching, and I’m staring at the floor
As a room full of feet is staring back at me
It’s silent and it’s distant in the ocean of canvas shoes
And I can’t stop wondering if she’s out there swinging if…

It’s the present day and it’s getting late
There’s no fight left undone, no more ground to be run
Bit of rum to help me sleep, and I’m lying in the dark
After all these years, sympathising with a compulsive liar

Amy’s disappeared off the face of the earth
I searched for you across the web, I even read the local paper
For the sake of all that I could ever aim for in this world
I hope you’re out there pummeling things into water vapour.
Track Name: Got Me Like 'This Way'
Wake in a cold sweat
Brush it off, no sweat
Shower time, I'm wet
Suit up

Check the calendar, it's Tuesday
Browse pictures of Timmeeeh
Harsh times, heavy days
Think again:

It's all alcohol, bitties
Bank account, fiddies
Sneaky vom, no biggie
Cheeky grom (pesky bee)

Late night, Subway
Six inch, no way
It's drinks on me at Sway.

Yeah it got me like 'this way'
And it got me like 'that way'
Rollin' in money, every payday
It got me all 'this way'
And then it got me all 'that way'
Top kek, no blasé
It got me good - hue hue.

Conjunctivitis, no fear
What time is it?
Beer time.
& a half penalties
Living in the seventies

Don't hug me when I'm cooked
Parking inspector will have you booked
Here is a rhyme, now you're hooked
Here is a beat.

Which has you like 'this way'
And gets you like 'that way'
Rollin' in money, every payday
It got me all 'those ways'
And then it got me all 'these ways'
And, 'these ways'
And...

These ways that I'm feeling
Gives me more pain than healing
Why are we here? What is our purpose?
Tear after tear, are we just superfluous?

Over that way, I see a shining light
But over this way, I see a broken fight
Will I stay here forever
Or will I take flight?

There's no room to think, I've only a spark
Let nobody see that I'm missing the mark
Keep living it up and my thoughts in the dark
Until it gets me like...
Track Name: Baseball
I: PAPER STREET

She broke my heart in the city, standing in the pouring rain
I come back home to find myself alone
I look around and I all have is records in a shoebox
Without you I have nothing at all.

The first day was the worst, I cooked some breakfast then I puked it up
I found no pleasure, found no burst, at the bottom of my coffee cup
I always was the lazy one, the sleep in & hungover one
My time with you, I let it slip, but time’s not up

So I take a step outside, and I start to run, I ran until I could no more
My legs never felt so alive, each step was a spark igniting my
Lungs, open wide again, breathing for the first time, thinking
All this time that I’ve spent broken, I’ve been missing out on life

If I keep running, the time we shared won’t be for nothing
If I keep living, my own two feet might stand for something

No amount of music’s gonna heal my soul (ironically)
What I want isn’t helping me, retail therapy, you’re not a friend to me, no.
I’ll work my ass off day by day, save a house for my family
My wife & kids will love me more than my gourmet homemade stir fry

I’m Jack’s cold sweat on Paper Street, apartment’s blown to smithereens
But I’m not split, I’m chasing down a living dream
You’ve woken up what makes me tick, what makes me stir in my grave
And I’m not done, I’m not finished, I’m not hiding in my cave

If I keep running, the time we shared won’t be for nothing
If I keep living, my own two shoes might stand for something

II: TUMBLEWEED

Seems like nothing phases me anymore
Feels like nothing new is at my door
I’ve been driving around to spark some life out of me
Nothing is free and freedom is a bore

I’ve been flipping the channels but nothing’s sounding real
There’s actors not people, there’s rhythm but there is no feel
The fast food tastes like wet concrete
It’s lost its heat, and it’s full of maggot appeal

Face it – she’ rather be alone than with me
She’d rather live her life without me
I feel like tumbleweed
But I guess all is fair in love & baseball

III: ESCAPE

I could drown myself in alcohol until I can’t remember my name
But I’d be kidding myself if I ever thought I could forget the pain
There’s a fire in my hair, guess it’s literally burnt
That I will be happier when all the world is turnt
On their medicine and plasma screens, and soap opera daydreams
I’m looking for, I’m looking for an escape

But no matter how hard I try, can’t sterilise myself
Over oceans I’ll escape, can’t keep you on the shelf

A teenage four-digit tissue bill, there’s nothing new today
But if there’s one thing that I have learnt, you can’t lock your grief away

If I keep running, the time we shared won’t be for nothing
If I keep running… if I keep running…
Track Name: Vibin'
All of this comes so fast, I’m stranded in the desert like everything’s passed
We will be shrivelling up like prunes soon enough, and floating away on the wings of dust
Like old friends meeting after years apart, the buzz is gone
I know this place, there isn’t more to me
Than a 12-hour battery, instincts to police me
Thin lines to direct me, discontent & comfortably.

Picture yourself in a scene, you’re formerly 19
The sharpest businessman I’ve ever seen
As you wake at the break of dawn, there’s no one to hear a yawn
Scull down a cappuccino, on the railway: go.

Mornings like these, I wanna curl up and die
Feels like I’ve grown up too fast, what happened to a simpler time
When work was just a daydream, a weightless amphetamine
I know I should man up and take it as reality

But every day goes a little bit faster, when I sit here thinking of you
And one day I swear I’m gonna smile, one of these nights I’ll come home to you
You make me wanna’ work for something more than Monday ever could
And when I pick up the pace, it never felt so good

As the days go by, see my baby looking fly and now I’m vibin’
I feel your fresh beat girl upon which this funky rhythm is a-thrivin’

But aren’t we all just talk? We say we’ll never be that guy
Suddenly we close our eyes and just go with it
Feels like we aim so high, but straight from the blue sky
It’s looking like gravity always wins
I’ll be out there making a difference, but to who or what?
They tell me be reckless, go spend a lot
But don’t we end up the same, stepping on that train
You feel it in your shins, gravity always wins

With the freedom to run, and the freedom to dance & make fate
That’s something you can never take away
I choose it step by step, blow by blow
And every failure reminds me that I’m alive today
You can spend your days rotting in your homemade prison cell
But in the end you make up your own heaven or hell
I’ll sit down with my pen and I’ll write a revolution
Cause’ in the end the gravity’s up to me.

As the days go by, see my baby looking fly and now I’m vibin’
I feel your fresh beat girl upon which this funky rhythm is a-thrivin’
There’s a place not far, break a sweat into the tar now we’re arriving
Take a deep breath in, feel the weight around your skin keeping you vibin’

It’s so much easier to give up and sleep
I wanna’ wake up alive, and be present here
I wanna’ see you boycotting the escalators & take the stairs
Don’t you bitch out.
Put a fire in my hair and the movement in my bones
Help me reach the purpose you designed me for, and real soon I’m
Havin’ a vibe, havin’ a vibe, havin’ a vibe yeah, mmm mmmm.

As the days go by, see my baby looking fly and now I’m vibin’
I feel your fresh beat girl upon which this funky rhythm is a-thrivin’
There’s a place not far, break a sweat into the tar now we’re arriving
Take a deep breath in, feel the weight around your skin keeping you vibin’.
Track Name: The Politics Of Breathing
Hey it’s me, can I talk to you for a sec?
Tell you about the things that make me tick?

Well, you don’t know fear until you’ve looked around the room and thought
Oh boy these people actually care about politics
Bear a silent suit & tie and fully argumentative
But no one to convince when conviction is imperative
The truth is that I’m weak, I struggle to align
I’m scared any conflict will push me far behind
I’d love to tell you all the things I hope for my fate
But you’ve snookered me well, so I give in mate.

Dear Josie: I wanna say I’m sorry for the things I fake
I worry so much about me, I couldn’t care less for your sake
I’m so scared of death even though I shouldn’t be
I keep it hushed and quiet with a room around me
So how do you expect me to voice up and keep it straight
When you’re lecturing me how to hate
I’m just a boy who wished he could sing
But you won’t listen to the quiet voice, the softest melody lingering.

We talk for hours, around in circles, but there’s no solution
That hasn’t left me on my knees, drowning in pollution
Every turn I’ve made has taken me from you
I am a beggar, this I know is true

I long for a place where my world don’t revolve around wealth
I hope for a day when you can save me from myself
Waging a war for ourselves, only one thing is true
We are beggars, and we are nothing without you.

I feel it stuck in the avenue
There's no voice that could broaden your revenue
There's no freedom with opinions on copyright
We keep it out of sight, so drain the fortitude
What if I was to stray from the norm, would that fit on your form
Or do I need a licence?
Not to speak but to listen, yeah that's what you're missing
It's a human trait, not rocket science

There was a video game I used to spend my time on
Where I searched across the fields on my motorbike
Through the plains and the valleys I'd accelerate
Through the pitch black cold of the night
And from the highest mountain I leaped, towards the glow of the city
And my parachute to me into the mist
It was so beautiful, it felt so real
Nothing in this world could harm me where freedom kissed

But look up, the sky fills with clouds like popcorn
On a horizon far away from unknown
It's coming soon, it's just a moment away
And soon I will be covered over.
Track Name: Sweater
Yeah – DJ man, why you knitting that sweater?
Don’t you know the sunrise will get better
When the winter’s over, through the dead of the night
One trumpet will be left by the morning light
We’ll be sitting, hanging our feet off the jetty
Watching our dreams explode like confetti
A clock strikes midnight and it’s all been done
Cheer up sleepy gene, tommorow’s yet to come

I walk this moonlit street, I can’t restrain these feet
I am worlds away tonight, I’m following the glow and it’s so cold.

Another day in the office and I’m feeling so distant
You can’t chase a white collar when your head’s resistant
It’s a strange world when you overthink it
I’ve thrown too many lines around to hear myself sink it
Cause’ when you don’t think about days to come
Your eyes will start to open and you’ll realise that it’s so cold.

But when I rock up to your house, in the middle of the night
After the last train has gone, you’re there holding me tight
You’re the only destination, so through these suburbs I take flight
I turn left at home sweet home, and I swear that moment’s gold
The world could freeze right over but when I’m with you it’s not so cold.

Yeah. DJ man, why you knitting that sweater?
Don’t you know the sunrise will get better
When the winter’s over, through the dead of the night
One trumpet will be left by the morning light
We’ll be sitting, hanging our feet off the jetty
Watching our dreams explode like confetti
A clock strikes midnight and it’s all been done
Cheer up sleepy gene, tommorow’s yet to come
Track Name: Soul Character Freedom
I turn on the radio to hear you
Talking smack you don’t mean about things you never done
People pushing buttons in a room, it don’t mean a thing
It’s a big slab of pavement, nothing more than amusement

Because you’re bombastic, and you’re made of plastic, Skippy
There's not a phrase that hits me in the soul
Do I care if I look like an idiot?
At least I’m telling it, say something significant

I’m saying keep it real man, do I look like a scientist?
I sing for a reason, rap like it’s treason
Say something that I never heard before, trigger me more!
I provide a disclaimer, it’s soul - character - freedom.

Here’s a weather forecast: green lights all the way
Bicycle therapy, coffee cure the break of day
West End bakery boy is my homeslice
Even though my sausage roll was cold as ice (what a scrub)

Reggae music on the street, won’t see me break a sweat
Rev your engine right on by, nobody catch me on a bet
Here’s a weather forecast: parallel park dream
In the middle of traffic, it’s the filthiest snook I ever seen

Harmonise with me!
I’m a broken man, and they want to throw me out of the RE!
And they will remember me: Andrew Douw.

It’s just a bit of reggae
Hey, what would you do if you were reggae?
I didn’t spend a dime on this meme
It’s just a prank!
Jack’s chinstrap was dank!
It’s an illusion of freedom, like Chazz’s biceps.
Music is about soul, character & freedom.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

There’s a little piece of you inside every tune I crank. So cheers for the drank, and thank for the dank.
